⬢ Canon Point:

⬢ History: We would prefer this to come in the form of a link or a series of links, but will accept written histories if there is nothing available.

For series with multiple routes and/or choices that can be made that effect the outcome of the game, please outline what choices were made as well.

⬢ Personality: Describe your character as best as you can. If we feel there is anything pivotal to the character that was left out, we will ask for revisions, so please try and be as thorough as possible. Be sure that the personality described is adequately reflected in your samples!

⬢ Powers: Because there is no power nerfing in the library itself by default, please list all canon powers, and outline what forms those powers take/what they can do. Feel free to link to a wiki section here as well, if that would be easier. Please note that any powers not on the application will not be accessible without a canon update, so we have something to refer to.

We do reserve the right to limit game-breaking powers, but will also work with you to give your character a reduced form of these powers, should they come up, so they won't be lost entirely.

⬢ Inventory: Please outline everything that was on your character's person at the moment they were pulled into the game. This includes weapons, armor, and anything in their pockets and/or any bags they might have been carrying. Please also describe (or link an image of) their second outfit from home, and choose two of the following three library shirts that they will find in their complimentary duffel. [1 2 3]

Character Info
⬢ Name: Lalli Hotakainen
⬢ Canon: Stand Still Stay Silent
⬢ Canon Point: Adventure 2, Chapter 10

⬢ History: Ta-da! But since it ends a bit early (though not as early as Emil's, thank God): After Lalli, Emil, and Reynir pop out of Lalli's dream, the gang continues searching for Lalli's cousin, Onni, in the Finnish wilderness. They eventually find him in the ruins of a city—along with the spirit of Lalli's other cousin, Tuuri? Who is serving as Onni's guide? It's a little out there. Anyway, with the gang reunited, they turn their attention toward hunting down a dangerous Finnish spirit, which just so happens to be guarded by ferocious bear trolls. They're currently squatting in this ancient city as they attempt to figure out a way to deal with them...

⬢ Personality: My Felix app was long enough, closes my eyes @ myself... let's try bullet points this time!

RESILIENT: Over the course of the comic, Lalli has proven to be surprisingly adaptable. Don't get me wrong - he doesn't enjoy being thrust into unfamiliar environments and/or learning about strange new things, but rather than waste time complaining, he tends to just... roll with the punches. His cousin signs him up for an expedition into the highly dangerous silent world? He asks to go home, is told that he can't, and decides to tag along without further pushing the issue. The expedition requires both a day and a night scout, but the people in charge are too cheap to pay for an extra head? He works around the clock, even though it results in him running on little to no sleep. It may not be the healthiest way to deal with every little (or not-so-little) thing, but thanks to the, um, unfortunate state of his world, he's resigned to deal with whatever is thrown his way. When you grow up in an environment where it's common for entire villages to disappear overnight, you learn to expect the worst at all times... and just keep pressing forward.

LEVEL-HEADED: Lalli's world is fraught with danger, but when things get exceptionally bad, he can almost always be relied upon to keep his cool. Survival is key, you see, and he will do whatever it takes to ensure that both he and his team live to see another day. For example: When a very powerful spirit follows and attacks said team, Lalli pushes his easily flustered teammate to set up traps around the camp before attempting to use his own magic to keep the spirit at bay, even as it gets right up in his face and taunts him. Or how about that time he came out of a coma-like state to find both himself and a manic Emil trapped in a bathroom while a horde of hungry monsters tried to break down the door? As woozy as he was, Lalli still managed to find an exit, trick a much larger troll into acting as pest control, and find a safe place to hide until morning. Panic is a luxury he simply can't afford; even hesitating for a single second can cost him his life and/or the lives of his teammates, so he's learned to keep his emotions in check and do what needs to be done.

DETERMINED: Lalli is, above all else, a highly effective scout - and he takes a great deal of pride in his job. Honestly, serving as a scout is the only thing he does take pride in. When someone doubted that he was actually a mage, he shrugged them off and went about his day; when someone told him he failed as a scout, he puffed right up and told them that he would do whatever it took to prove them wrong, because Lalli is aware that his job is a very important one. People in his world depend on him to maneuver through the trickiest terrain, to map out safe routes while watching for—and occasionally dealing with—potential threats; he's essentially the first line of defense for both his team and his community, which is why, no matter how many hoops he's forced to jump through, he constantly pushes himself to do the best he can. Part of this is... the desire to be praised/to fit in, which will be touched on below, but his determination to succeed mainly revolves around the fact that people's lives are on the line. He's terrible with people as a whole, but he doesn't want anyone to die because of him; it's why he will get the job done! Always!

PROUD: Remember how I said that there's really only one thing (re: scouting) that Lalli takes pride in? Well. Lalli generally doesn't care what people think about him; he's used to being seen as the odd one/the outsider, but when it comes to his scouting abilities/a particular job that he's been entrusted with, Lalli absolutely craves recognition. The second that anyone doubts him and/or tells him that he's made some type of mistake, he goes from apathetic to straight-up desperate to prove them wrong. He doesn't make mistakes, you see! Other people have to realize this! He even dreams about people patting him on the back and telling him what a wonderful job he's done, which is why he'll do anything—including putting himself in risky situations and/or overusing his magic and knocking himself out cold for a few days—to prove that he's very, very good at whatever thing/job/task he's been given. Earning people's approval by being good at something, you see, is much easier than earning people's approval via other means, because Lalli is—

SOCIALLY AWKWARD: Let me be frank: Lalli is astonishingly bad with other people. He's spent at least six years serving as a night scout, meaning that he's used to sleeping during the day (i.e. when most people are active) and running about the forest at night; he's never really had to interact with many people, aside from his direct superior and his two (2) family members, so the social norms that govern others? He really has no idea what they are, much less why he should abide by them, which results in him doing weird things like hissing at annoying children, or stealing people's food right off their plates, or giving one-word answers to even the most complex questions. It's bad!

What makes it even worse, however, is that, because he's spent so much time on his own, his emotional maturity has also been stunted. Kids learn to express their frustrations in healthy ways by observing those around them, or by, you know, being told that yelling at other people is B-A-D; Lalli, however, has been isolated for so long—thanks to living in a tiny military base since he was eight—that he rarely thinks about things before he just... does them. I think the perfect example of this is when, upon waking from a week or so spent in a coma-like state, he expects his teammates to praise him for the amazing job he did before he passed out. They don't, of course; they had their own things to deal with while he was snoozing in the back of their tank, but rather than convey his frustrations in a normal, healthy way, he sulks by himself... and then calmly upends a bowl of very hot soup into the face of one of his teammates. It's petty, it's childish, but to Lalli, it was the simplest, most effective way to express exactly how he was feeling.

Temper-tantrums aside, though, here's the thing: there's a part of Lalli that really does want to fit in with the people around him? The problem is that he selfishly expects others to meet him in his comfort zone instead of, you know, actually putting himself out there. This is something he's slowly realizing, thanks to help of his aforementioned (patient) friend, but it's something he will honestly have to start actively working on if he finds himself in a strange new land where language barriers aren't a Thing. Opening up to new people—learning to trust them—will be an incredibly difficult challenge for him, but making new friends is much better than making new enemies...

IGNORANT: One of the worst things about growing up in a post-apocalyptic world is that education just... falls to the wayside? Day-to-day survival is way more important than learning about who did what back in the good ol' days, which is why Lalli knows almost nothing about how the world actually works. In many ways, he's sheltered; moving from a small village to a military base when he was, like, eight years old means that he only really knows a) mage skills handed down to him via his more experienced family members and b) how to SCOUT. Horses? What are those? Lalli sees them for the first time and calls them "weird, ugly moose." Maps are flat? That obviously means that the earth is flat, too. Most of the time his lack of knowledge is rather funny - and he doesn't really care that he knows so little about things, but it still serves as a sort of wedge that's been driven between Lalli and the rest of the world. It's hard to relate to others when you have no idea what they're talking about/where they're coming from!

⬢ Powers: As a (Finnish) mage, Lalli has access to some neat—and fairly specific—abilities... which are all very confusing. I'm going to link a few examples to keep this as concise as possible, so please bear with me! I will also happily nerf things as needed!

  • Lalli is able to see/hear the spirits of people/things around him, as his cousin—a much more experienced mage—briefly mentions here. It seems like a pretty benign thing, but if the spirits have been corrupted in some way, it... isn't exactly a pleasant experience? Spirits trapped inside Trolls/Beasts frequently attempt to lure mages close enough to kill them, and they are both very loud and very persuasive; they can overpower a weaker mage and force them to walk right to their deaths, which is why Lalli has spent years strengthening his mental defenses.
  • As we're told in the comic, "Finnish mages posses the ability [to] control elements of nature" by reciting a runo. These are essentially pleas for certain spirits/deities/elements to assist a mage in various ways, i.e. asking the moon goddess to break out some moonlight, or telling loud spirits to shut up before they catch these hands. He won't be able to use this in the game, thanks to being faaaaar away from the spirits/deities he's used to, but it's an important ability to mention.
  • Along with spells, Finnish mages are also able to help guide spirits to the afterlife. Helping human souls is a very tricky thing; mages need to know more about the human and/or their past life to guide them along, and corrupted human souls rarely remember anything. Animal souls, however, are easier to guide along! By placing the skull of a corrupted beast on top of a specific tree (a kallohonka), Finnish mages can ensure that the soul will pass on free of corruption.
  • Finns each have a Luonto, aka "an outer being that follows and protects its human throughout life." The best info can be found here, but for game purposes: Lalli's Luonto—a lynx—is essentially a summon he can use to attack and/or defend, but as it requires a great deal of effort to summon, he rarely relies upon it. It's more of a last-ditch effort type of thing? Like, when he had to check a hundred or so troll nests at once to see if they would pose a threat to his teammates, he called upon his Luonto to knock them all out in one fell swoop... but that resulted in a) a rather intense nosebleed and b) Lalli spending several days in a coma-like state. Not fun at all.
  • When Lalli overexerts himself, or simply falls asleep, his consciousness slips into what's known as the dreamscape. It's essentially like having an incredibly intense lucid dream? He "wakes" up in his personal dream (seen here) and can essentially do whatever he pleases within his personal dream. He can even leave his personal dream and attempt to enter the dreams of others, but as a Finnish mage, he can't just barge into them; he needs to be invited inside. Leaving his own personal dream is also a very dangerous endeavor! Different dreams are separated by a wide body of water, and corrupted spirits are always on the hunt for unsuspecting mages. Inside the dreamscape, though, Lalli can defend himself in ways he can't in the waking world, like cat bombing his way to freedom or flying to safety. Will he ever willingly leave his own dream in this game? No, because physical distance seemingly affects dream distance! The mages he knows are currently out of reach, except for one important exception...
  • ...Which is Emil! Emil isn't even a mage, but after Lalli spent a good chunk of time trapped inside his mind, they can actually share dreams. It's almost like they've forged some type of psychic bond, because the dream-sharing thing seems to happen when they really need and/or want to communicate with one another? It's not a perfect process; the dreams they share tend to get rather wonky (i.e. ducks popping up on people's backs, birds swimming through the water like fish), and any sort of friction between them causes the dream to end, but it's still a Thing that happens.
  • This isn't a power, per se, but Lalli is a scout—and he's very good at what he does. He's used to running throughout the night, watching out for dangerous creatures as he searches for safe places and safe paths. His endurance is incredible, and his memory isn't too shabby, either; he never carries a map with him, but he still manages to easily recall alternate routes and various points of interest.
