Rules & FAQ
Rules⬡ You must be over 18 to join. This game has the potential to deal with subjects of an adult nature, as well as body horror, gore, and psychological horror, and as such, we cannot allow minors. ⬡ Absolutely no harassment of any kind will be tolerated. Do not contribute to a toxic game environment anywhere. Harassment in any form will not be tolerated, and is grounds for immediate expulsion from the game. ⬡ All explicit or potentially triggering content must be put under a cut and warned for. ⬡ IC does not equal OOC. Negative CR is expected and should be welcomed and does not mean the other player hates you, personally. Communication is key, here. ⬡ No godmodding or infomodding. In the same vein - no headcanon-pushing. If something is not explicitly canon, then you cannot force other players to treat it as such. No fourth-wall breaking without permission. Communicate, communicate, communicate!! ⬡ Keep your playing a pleasant experience for everyone. ⬢ Be as IC as reasonably possible. ⬢ No powergaming - no character is completely infallible. ⬢ Communicate! ⬢ Use warnings appropriately. ⬡ Please use the following header for open posts: About the Game⬡ What kind of game is this? Liburutegia is a fairytale based game with some horror and mature themes. Its events may contain a blend of comical, serious and horror elements. Character actions have the potential to affect the overarching plot of the game, and will have a direct influence on the outcome of all events. For the full premise, see here, or here, for a more mobile-friendly version. Potential horror elements may contain both body horror and psychological horror, but all events have the ability to be opted out of by simply staying in the library. Keep in mind; however, that opting out of an event requires opting out of it in its entirety, as events take place in completely disparate settings from the rest of the game. ⬡ What's this about events being in new settings? Every month, characters will be transported into a new storybook, to recover the plot that has gone missing. Characters will be assigned roles in the cast of the story, and may change physically and/or psychologically to fit their given role. Roles will be decided by the mods, and all characters in each role will have something in common. Test drives will function the same as main events, but on a smaller scale - either from being derived from a shorter tale, or one with a more limited cast. As such, existing characters are encouraged to post top levels on test drives, if any prompts interest them. ⬡ So how do opt-outs work? If you dislike your character's role, or some aspect of the event, then your character will stay in the library for that month. That doesn't mean there's nothing to do; however! CR can be built between characters who are left behind, and the library can be explored. Books are all able to be read, and occasionally, there will be workshops in a common space to teach new skills. It is a place of peace and learning, after all. Your character; however, does not choose when they stay behind in the library. That mechanic is just as mysterious as how everyone was brought here in the first place. ⬡ How did my character end up here in the first place? The Library saw something in them that it needed. Maybe it was something in their personality that made it feel like they would suit a role particularly well. Maybe there is something about them that the others present are lacking. Maybe it just liked a particular turn of phrase they used just moments before being transported here. Whatever the case, they've been pulled from their world with no fanfare, no odd dreams, no contracts. Just you, the magic held in old, dusty books and oft-told stories, in the sum of all knowledge in all universes, and an auspicious moment in time. ⬡ What happens when they arrive? New arrivals will find themselves somewhere in the library. They might be in rows of shelves, looking at old, dusty tomes. They could be laid out on one of the deceptively comfortable leather couches. They might find themselves seated at a study desk, or at a table in the cafe. They might even be just walking in the front doors. They might also notice some immediate changes. If they were dirty in any way - from dirt, or grime, from mud, muck, or even blood, they'll be clean. Their skin and hair will feel as though they've freshly bathed, and their clothes will be freshly laundered. Any armor they may be wearing will also be clean and polished. We wouldn't want to damage the books, after all. They'll arrive with any belongings they had on their person - clothing they were wearing, and anything they were holding in their hands. Weapons; however, will be confiscated. They won't be gone entirely, though! They'll simply be locked away in a glass case in either the Mountain or Ocean Galleries, that seems to always have enough room to accommodate any new additions to the collection. Oddly enough, this case cannot be broken into by any means. Weapons will disappear when their owner is sent back home, worry not. They're simply on loan. Characters will also be gifted a small duffel bag. Inside this bag will be a change of clothes, suited to their typical taste and style (aka: another outfit from their canon), a pair of jeans, socks, and sneakers that will fit them, two of these three options of library tee shirts [1 2 3], also sized to fit, and a tote, containing a small tablet device and a key to a personally identified locker where they can keep their duffel bag and other belongings. These lockers will appear from the outside as normal lockers, but will be able to hold seemingly any items placed into them. A small note in the tote will encourage characters to keep it, their tablet, and their locker key with them while they peruse the library, though items may also be retrieved at the lost and found behind the information desk. Mysteriously, the lost and found box will appear empty, unless whoever is looking into it has lost something. The lost and found may be utilized to pass items on to other characters, if a character is being dropped and a player wants to leave something to another. Tablets and weapons are the only things that cannot be passed on in this way. ⬡ Can my character bring a pet/pokemon/animal companion with them? Unfortunately, no. No non-player-character-animals in the library. If a character has need of a service animal, they will be treated as an extension of the character in question, and will be allowed. ⬡ Are powers nerfed? Yes and no. ⬢ In The Library: Powers are not nerfed at all, but characters will not be able to do any damage to the building itself, any equipment belonging to the library, or the books themselves. They will also not be able to use their powers to remove food or drinks from the cafe. They can; however, use their powers in any other way they see fit. Toast a bagel with your fire powers! Teleport to the sixth floor instead of taking the stairs or the elevator! Commit acts of grievous bodily harm to your fellow patrons! Follow your dreams... so long as your dreams do not damage the library. ⬢ In Stories: Characters may find themselves with their full power set, or they may be nerfed. They may be partially nerfed, or they may find themselves with a whole new set of powers that they suddenly and mysteriously know how to use with as much skill as their role would allow. ⬡ What is the IC/OOC day ratio? As the library itself is a liminal space, time does not seem to flow normally here. Clocks will always show 4pm, and floors with windows will always show a scene outside of a temperate, autumn afternoon. Mountainside windows will show a beautiful mountain vista, and Oceanside windows will show a beach and the sea, both just far enough in the distance to be idyllic, but not so close as to be concerning. Characters' own timekeeping devices - watches, cell phones, internal wiring, etc. - will continue to function as normal, and so time will "pass" however a character would know it to pass, if they care to keep track of the days. In such cases, there will be a 1:1 ratio. ⬡ What is my character's incentive for playing along? There isn't one! More accurately, though, certain roles in stories will give characters compulsions to act in certain ways to see the original story out to it's true end. The Evil Queen will have a strong desire to kill Snow White - via Huntsman or Poison. Cinderella will want, desperately, to go to the ball, and her stepsisters will do anything to keep her away - or to steal her prince. Characters may only resist their roles to a point, if they can resist at all, but some roles give much more freedom than others. After a story is completed, and a book is closed, everyone will remember what happened in said story - what they did, or what was done to them, and how they felt. The horror comes from having been unable to stop it. Characters⬡ What sort of characters are accepted? Currently, only characters originating from a published canon are allowed. Canon OCs - such as a FFXIV Warrior of Light - may be accepted on a case by case basis, but only one per each canon role. (One WoL, One Inquisitor, etc.) Characters may be any age or species, so long as they are sentient. OCs, CRAUs, and AU characters will not be accepted at this time. Canon AUs may be acceptable, if the AU takes place within the canon itself, and the character has enough material to be applied for. Tabletop OCs count as Original Characters, and are therefore not able to be apped in at this time. ⬡ Are doubles allowed? No. In the case of doubles/multiples, such as with comics-derived sources and their many shows, movies, and universes, only one copy of each character can be applied. If someone has successfully apped in Bruce Wayne from the Nolanverse movies, no other Bruce Wayne can be applied, as he is already taken. This rule applies to similar franchises as well, such as Fate/, MDZS/The Untamed, etc. If the canons themselves are markedly different, then characters with overlapping names will be allowed. For example; Hades from the Supergiant Games' Game Hades and Disney's Hercules's Hades, or Shinsengumi characters from overwhelmingly different canons. When in doubt, just ask and we'll be glad to clarify if your character is different enough to be apped! ⬡ How long does a new canon have to be out before it can be apped? A new canon, or a new installment of an existing canon, must be released for two weeks before it can be applied for or canon updated to. If the two week point occurs on a day when applications would be open, the character is free to be reserved and applied for like normal. ⬡ What happens if my character is very large or very small? As the library is a primarily indoor space, but a nebulous space, very large characters will be sized down to the point where they can comfortably stand up straight in whatever space they are inhabiting. They may have to duck to step through doors, but will not find themselves cramped on the other side of them. Very small characters will remain very small. Luckily, stepladders are easy to find. Very large or very small characters may find themselves resized to "human size" to suit a role; however, in certain events. ⬡ What about if my character is a ghost? All good libraries need a few library ghosts, so spectral guests are more than welcome. ⬡ What if my character is a robot or has special dietary needs? On every floor, all characters will find at least one charging station. There will be cords and ports for any device - from your mechanical body to your brought-from-home cell phone. Characters like vampires or zombies with dietary restrictions will find everything they need in the cafe, just like characters with more mundane dietary needs. ⬡ What if my character is injured or dead at the canon point they are coming in from? In such cases, you have a few choices available to you. Injured characters may be healed entirely, or they may find their wounds cleaned and neatly disinfected and bandaged, similar to how characters are cleaned on arrival. Their wounds will heal over time, at a pace that is appropriate for the level of injury and their species, and they may or may not be left with a scar. The recently deceased will find themselves alive once again, and any injuries that led to their demise will be lessened in severity to something survivable, and then players will have the same options as above. ⬡ How many characters can I play at once? How many characters from the same canon can I play at once? You can play as many characters at once as you can reasonably handle. However; if it is brought to our attention that you are barely scraping by with the bare minimum, we may ask you to scale back until you are in a better place to handle the load. You can also play as many characters from the same canon as you'd like. However; we urge you to consider your potential character options carefully and take into consideration all cr - both canon and potential - when making your decision of who to app. If a character you are applying has a significant amount of in-canon cr with another character you already have in-game, we reserve the right to reject the application on those grounds, even if everything else about the application would warrant an acceptance. ⬡ Are there game or cast caps? Not at this time. This may be subject to change in the future. ⬡ Can I canon update? Yes! To do so, please fill out the form on the hiatus/drop/canon update page. Apps/Activity⬡ What are the activity requirements? Each month, you must submit ten comments from you, from the current month, over any number of threads. The activity post is always open, and players are encouraged to submit their activity at any point in the month that they have it. Threads do not have to be started in the current month to count, but comments have to be from the current month. Activity can be made anywhere - log, network, and inbox threads all count. ⬡ How do Hiatuses and strikes work? A hiatus lasting over half of the month only needs to check in with a link to their hiatus notification. A hiatus lasting less than half of the month only needs to make half ac - 5 comments, over any number of threads, and a link to the hiatus notification. Hiatuses cannot be used two months in a row, and cannot be used after taking a strike. If you take a hiatus, but are able to make and submit full AC, then your hiatus will be null and you may take one the following month. Hiatuses cannot be declared retroactively. Strikes occur when you cannot make ac in a month, but still check in anyway. To clear the strike, you must make double the amount of activity the next month - 20 comments, over any number of threads - or be swept from the game. Anyone who fails to check in without taking a hiatus or a strike will be swept. ⬡ What happens if I am swept? You will be free to reapply in the next app round, if you'd like, but cannot place a reserve for the same character you were swept with beforehand. ⬡ When are Applications? Applications will be open for the last week of every month, and acceptances will be issued on a rolling basis throughout the app cycle as mods review the apps. New characters will officially appear in the game on the first of the following month. ⬡ When are Reserves? Reserves will open three days before applications. ⬡ How many characters can I Reserve? How many characters can I apply for at once? While you may apply for as many characters per round as you believe you can reasonably handle, you may only reserve one character per round. If mods believe you've applied for an excessive amount of characters in one round, we reserve the right to reject some, most, or all of them outright. ⬡ Do you allow proxy Reserves? Yes! The proxy reserve must be in a comment on its own, separate from any reserve the proxy reserver may be making for themselves, and the person the proxy is for must respond to the proxy reserve within 24 hours. Before that 24 hours is up, others may place a reserve for the same character, but those reserves will not be processed, and will be considered null if the proxy is responded to within the allotted time. ⬡ Do you accept challenge applications? Yes, we do! In the event one character has been reserved, any challenging application will need to be submitted before the reserve has been accepted into the game. Unprocessed applications, outstanding revisions, and outright rejections mean the character is still fair game. Reserves themselves are insurance that your application will be reviewed before a final decision on a given character is made, not a guarantee that you will actually get that character. Since we review applications on a first-come, first-serve basis, a reserve guarantees you the "first-come" slot, even if a challenger submits their app first. If a reserve fails to submit an app before the close of the app period, the challenge will be processed as though there was never a reserve at the end of the app round. Setting⬡ Are there language barriers? No! When brought in, The Library shares a little bit of it's knowledge with all characters, to the point of sharing a universal language with everyone present. Should characters make a concerted effort to speak or write in their native tongue, or another language they know; however, the words or text will come out in that language. Luckily, as this is a library with the sum of all knowledge contained in its pages, characters will also be able to find dictionaries to use to translate, and textbooks to use to learn new languages, should they choose to. ⬡ Can characters leave the library? Yes, and there is a lovely park surrounding the building, with walking paths and benches, and meticulously cared for foliage. ⬡ No, I mean, leave-leave? Can they go home whenever they want? Yes and no. Should a character find the work of fiction they originated from in the stacks, and should they locate within that work of fiction the canon point they've been drawn from, the book itself can act as a portal back to the moment in time they were pulled from. Understandably, this would take quite a lot of effort, as characters will have to discover their series, recognize themselves in the text, and read far enough to find where they've been brought in from to even find the portal home in the first place, all with nothing indicating that this is even an option for them. So is it possible? Yes, absolutely. Probable? No. ⬡ What if I want to use this mechanic, but my character is from a video game/movie/TV show and not a written work? There will always be some kind of written work for characters to find, if players want to make use of this mechanic. They could find a novelization of their canon, or the script of their movie or show, or a comic or manga it has been adapted into. ⬡ What if I want to have my character find their source material, but not use this mechanic? If a character is the type to find their own source material, and would use this mechanic to go home, and you do not wish to use this to drop, then they will find that the page needed to send them home (their canon point) will be torn out of the book, and therefore unusable. If they look up the book in the library catalogue, they will find information that there is only one copy of their source material on the premises, that it is, unfortunately, damaged, and that another copy will be coming soon from another branch. This second copy will never arrive until/unless you, the player, decide you do wish to make use of this mechanic for a drop or a canon update. It will not be announced that the new copy has arrived, so it would have to be something your character would discover on their own, or keep track of. If this is used for a canon update, and you wish to restrict your character from going home with this method after their return again, they will find the old copy of the book replaced with the one from "another branch" but it will also be damaged - this time on the new canon point's page. ⬡ Can characters find other characters' source materials? Sure, but as always, communication here is key. Don't fourth-wall people without their consent. ⬡ Where do characters live? The Library is not equipped with apartments or bedrooms, so characters will not have their own private living quarters. However; there are large, comfortable, leather chairs and couches on every floor that characters can sleep on, and most of Ocean Floor 3 is a large open common room mostly populated with even larger and softer leather couches. The bathrooms on the ground floor have communal showers and sample-size hygiene products for keeping clean, and the cafe also on the first floor will provide any food anyone could possibly want, if they just order it at the counter, even though the menu only shows typical cafe fare. ⬡ What if my character dies in the library? Simply put: they will respawn somewhere else, after a period of time equivalent to three days ooc. They can respawn anywhere in the library, but there are certain places that seem to be more likely after death, such as: lying on the ground next to a shelf of religious texts pertaining to death and rebirth, falling out of an unused locker, on top of a weapons display case, inside the cafe's industrial freezer, or in a tree outside. Stories⬡ What are the Stories? The Stories are how events and test drives work in Liburutegia. The general concept is a work of fiction that is in the general public consciousness - fairy tales, popular short stories, fables, etc. - has been told and retold and adapted enough times that the Library's archives have become a bit hazy on the details. Characters will be pulled into the stories and take the roles of characters from those stories to set things right. ⬡ How will my character know what to do? That's where the changes come in. When in a role, characters will have a strong motivation to act out that role, by achieving certain objectives. No matter how strong their willpower is ordinarily, they will still be compelled to act in accordance to their role, and will not be cognizant of the fact that they are unable to resist. It will simply feel "right" to act appropriately, and "wrong" to step out of line. ⬡ What other changes can occur? Psychological changes will be the most prominent, always - characters may become quicker to anger, more arrogant, more innocent, reckless, overcautious, or any number of other traits that are appropriate and will be detailed in the start of every event. Physical changes; however, are also possible. They may appear younger than they actually are, to suit a child's role, or older - to suit an adult's role, in the case of teen or child characters, or to suit an elderly role. They may also take on animal traits, in the case of animal roles, or change species entirely - whether to become human in the first place, or to become something completely different. They may also become much larger or smaller. Everything will depend on the role, and all changes will be outlined in event writeups. ⬡ How do stories end? Stories end when enough significant events related to the plot of the story have occurred, and characters will be brought back to the library within the same month as they disappeared. The longer the story, the longer they will spend inside it. There will be an optional section on the activity check to report anything significant that your character did in a story - whether expected or unexpected, according to their role - that can change the final course of events. ⬡ What happens if my character dies inside a story? If your character dies inside a story, they will be immediately spat back out into the library, in a study room on the same floor the story itself is filed on, with all their memories of the event they'd experienced up to that point intact. Death is a very real possibility - some roles will have the objective of killing others, and some roles may have the objective to put themselves in a situation where they can or will die. ⬡ What happens in stories with a small setting? Understandably, having having ten, twenty, or many more characters being sent into a story where the setting is very limited - like a small house, or even a single room - and where many characters' roles can and will overlap, has the potential to get out of hand very quickly. However, due to the shifting, nebulous nature of the larger setting of the library as a whole; it won't be an issue. There can be a small handful of copies of a single role in one place, but it is much more likely that there won't be much overlap at all. You may thread with as many iterations of any role as you please - including overlapping ones - but the whole game won't find itself shoved unceremoniously into a single room. This may be handwaved away in any number of ways. Maybe you've all been transported into different copies of the same book. Maybe the Library knows it won't get a good outcome to the story if there isn't space for events to take place. Whatever the case, small settings will be a nonissue, and large, sprawling settings are much more likely to have duplicate-roles running into one another. Network⬡ Is there a network? Yes, and it can be accessed through the tablets provided on arrival, through any smartphone-like devices brought from home, and through the computers in any of the computer clusters marked on the map. ⬡ What can be posted to the network? The network itself is set up like a rudimentary message board, and can have text, photos, and videos posted to it from within the library. Private messages between characters can also be sent, as well as anonymous messages, but if off anon, characters' full names will always be attached. The network on the computers and on the provided tablets will also have access to a library catalogue, a map of the library, and banner notifications of events occurring in the library itself. ⬡ Does the network work in stories? No, but some stories set in a more contemporary or sci-fi setting may have their own self-contained networks. premise • taken • credit | ||||||||||||||

Character question!
I'm here to ask if someone like Malleus Draconia, who hasn't had his main story appear in his canon, and is pretty much a side character, can be apped? He has his personality show from side stories and events, but unlike 60% of the cast, he hasn't gotten a main chapter, and probably won't get it for another two months.

The mods are actually canon-familiar with Twisted Wonderland, so our decision on your question will reflect that! We're also planning on applying this to mobile games with similar plot structures, though do ask that players exercise their own discretion, just in case it's one we're not familiar with!
In the case of Twisted Wonderland, though; any of the main boys will be appable once their default SSR has been released and translated, since those usually go along with the release of their main story chapters. The actual side characters will be treated a little differently - the staff will always be appable, and side characters introduced in main chapters will be appable so long as the main chapter they were introduced in is complete and so long as they have an official design and name. (So, right now Cheka and Che'nya are appable, but Farena, Jade and Floyd's parents, and Neige are not, for example.)
Of course, this is in addition to our usual policy for waiting two weeks for new content as well, but in this case, the two weeks will begin as soon as there's a translation for the story/card.

Powers question
I can describe his magic in more detail if necessary, but there is a specific detail about his magic that contradicts that last part so I'd like to know what the ruling on this would be.
In the Nasuverse, things made with projection magic always end up disappearing eventually. This is because whatever the mage creates with projection, it's always something created with their mental image, which therefore means that it violates "reality". Thus, the world rejects it, and it will always eventually just vanish.
The neat part about Shirou's projection, however, is that his projection is unique and does more than regular projection. When Shirou creates a sword, the specific steps are:
Judging the concept of creation
Hypothesizing the basic structure
Duplicating the composition material
Imitating the skill of its making
Sympathizing with the experience of its growth
Reproducing the accumulated years
Excelling every manufacturing process
Put simply, when Shirou creates a sword, he reproduces everything about it. He creates the materials necessary for the creation, and recreates the history of whatever sword he's copying. As a result, he quite literally fools the world itself into thinking his creations are real. This means that his projections can last indefinitely so long as Shirou doesn't "deny their existence"
puts on glasses For example, let's take a moment in the UBW route where he projects Archer's swords for the first time. Shirou believes that Kuzuki's fists cannot break Archer's swords. However, when he is faced with the fact that Kuzuki's fists actually can break those swords, he unconsciously thinks "Oh, so these are not Archer's swords", and the swords disappear.
Shirou can skip certain steps in the creation process, but that obviously does end up negatively affecting the quality of whatever he creates.
TL:DR Shirou's specific way Shirou's magic does things happens to contradict the "keep concentrating on them" part of the answer I got on plurk. Read the two paragraphs above for clarification. Can I have a ruling placed on this?
(sorry for slamming a nasuverse magic rant in here)

His swords would still fall in a grey area between "magic construct" and "weapon!!" as far as the Library would be concerned, so the ruling where he has to concentrate to keep them around still stands, for the most part, just... modified. He'll have to concentrate on keeping them with him, but as soon as he sets them down or loses that concentration, they'll be put away in a display case like any other weapon... so he might very well end up filling some cases on his own if he does this often enough. Whoops. (It's okay, they're infinite.)
Also, if he does run into an instance where he would "deny their existence" as you put it, and they're already in a display, they'll just disappear out of the display as if they were never there.
Hopefully that's a more thorough answer for you!

One of the canons I'm considering apping from, Granblue Fantasy (as I'm considering Lucifer), has a member of the main cast recording the game's events in her journal. Would that appear in the library too? Could that be acceptable as the source material my potential character could try to use to get home? Or does the source material have to be an unbiased, third-party account of canon events?
And mostly out of curiosity, how many pieces of source material could there be for one canon? Even if only one character can be apped per "umbrella", so to speak, can the other spin-offs be found in the library? For example, novels that get movies, and those movies get comics, novelizations (that are markedly different from the original novel), a TV show, video game, etc.
no subject
That journal would absolutely show up in the Library ~somewhere~, though depending on how the character recording the events has titled her journal, it may not be anywhere near any other adaptations of the canon itself.
It would only be an acceptable source material for getting home if it contains a full retelling of all the events in canon. We apologize for the somewhat nebulous answer there, but we hope it answers the question well enough!
Every spinoff of everything (or at least a script of it) will be contained in the library! So if a character has caught on that maybe they'll be able to go home if they find themselves, but they've got 60 years of comics history and movies and spinoffs galore, they're sure going to be in for a long haul.

Yes, they'll get one (1) complimentary set of underwear in a style that may not be familiar, but that they would find most comfortable out of all the modern options, if they are not porting in with any that would work with the jeans/t-shirt combo.

1. the character in question has a malleable appearance and mass, which is controlled by his own choice, although he tends to keep to a roughly humanoid form. is this something that would be permitted by the library, despite being reality-warping?
2. he also has much more significant reality-warping abilities such as being able to create pocket dimensions, create innavigable mazes that don't exist, distort time, generally fuck with things to make people doubt their own sanity. is this something that would be permitted by the library at all, entirely nixed, moderately limited? obviously if it were okayed either partially or entirely i wouldn't use it without player permission on a small scale/mod permission on a larger scale. i understand that this is a weird question and am happy to explain more if it would be helpful!
no subject
1. This would absolutely be allowed by the Library, with the same constraints that other characters would receive regarding size. So he wouldn't be able to, say, become so heavy that he would break through the floor, or so large that he would fill a room, but otherwise he is more than welcome to shift as he pleases.
2. We're inclined to say yes, that would be allowed so long as you have player permission, and if you want to play with it on a larger scale, then please, come plan with us, and we can work together to figure something out! The only real limitations from what we can tell would be that the Library as a whole would remain unchanged and undamaged - perceptions can change, and pocket dimensions can be warped at will, but a greater setting change isn't possible, for example - and that characters that may be trapped in a pocket dimension/maze/general fuckery can also be pulled out of that state and into a Story, if the Library wants them in that particular one (i.e., if the player doesn't opt out of the event, etc.), if that makes sense! Also, he wouldn't be able to send anyone home, though from the looks of things it doesn't seem like he'd be all that inclined to in the first place.
Of course, should you decide to app, we'll have a clearer idea of what may or may not need to be tweaked once we have a better idea of the scope of his powers, but from what you've said here, it seems a-okay!

The shortest version of this: V wasn't stable enough when created to continue to exist, so he made pacts with some nightmares that also were fading away. They're all combined together to make a big magic pool that allows them all to exist, and V fights with them as familiars, and they are the primary source of his magic.
It's cool with me if he essentially just 'absorbs' them. It's cool with me if he's severed from them and is even weaker than he usually is. Just wanted to check in which option (or none of the above) that meets the internal logic of your game, thanks :3
no subject
So long as they're not sentient and able to be apped, V will still have full access to them, for the most part, if they're summons. If they aren't normally summons, then he'll "absorb" them, and they'll be summons while in the Library. He won't be able to hang out with them like they're pets, and they won't be able to leave the room without him, but other than that, since they're more magically-based instead of physical (i.e.; not a cat or dog or pokemon), they should be fine to keep.

Lambda here is essentially an AI without a physical body. With some premises I grant him an AI body or physical human body but since the library is a flexible setting (and he can be any number of other things in stories) I figured I'd check...
1) Could an AI character feasibly live in the library's digital space? i.e. able to be communicated with via certain computer terminals, tablets, or technology?
2) Would a character integrated with library technology then have any control over it? (I'm not interested in huge *hacker voice* I'm in levels of control, rather things that are just poltergeist level like abruptly causing attached devices to blare music, turn on and off lights, maybe try and run searches through online archives to no avail.)
no subject
2 - Any character with any kind of control over technology, AIs included, can get up to technological-poltergeist shenanigans if they're inclined to. They won't be able to flicker the lights, because the Library isn't so high tech that it's a Smart Space, but they can flicker monitors and blare music all they want!

Spoilers for the Homestuck Epilogues
1. If there's a library catalogue, if someone were to find out there was a possibility of their being fictional, could they not just find their source material through a search?
2. Once someone DOES find their source material, what is stopping them from simply walking to their book and going home every time they show up again?
3. My friend plays Dirk Strider from the Homestuck Epilogues and beyond. At that point in canon, Dirk is semi-aware he lives in a fictional property, and, in fact, has narration powers that let him basically tell the story. Dirk, upon coming in, would likely immediately search for his canon, and have the skills and knowledge to find it and himself and therefore have no reason to ever be trapped in the game.
What....can we do about that? Would it ruin the game premise too much to like. Have a Display on Homestuck in one of the cases so Dirk can't access his comic? I'm just spitballing, we love the premise and I'm just trying to work out how to stop this idiot character from breaking the game.

1. There is a catalogue, and they could absolutely find their source material through a search! Of course, they'd have to know (or figure out) the title of their source material, which would be more difficult for some characters than others.
2. Nothing is stopping them from just going home as they please once they find their source material/canon point. This is mostly meant as a pretty easy way for players to have a lore-reason for their resourceful characters dropping, or for a canon-update if their character is the type to want to stick around not in their own world (i.e. I found a way home, but the library yoinked me back and I'm okay with that.), since going home is, well. Going home, and implies that they won't be around anymore.
3. That's... a really good question, and we appreciate you asking us. Since the ways home aren't really publicized in the library itself (it wants to keep characters there, after all!), having a copy of Homestuck on display goes counter to what it wants, but it could be possible that Dirk could find the page of Homestuck he'd need to go home torn out of the book. In that case, the catalogue would show that there's only one copy on the shelves, and that it's damaged, and another copy is being transferred from another branch. If the player then would want to use the mechanic to actually drop or canon-update, then that's when Dirk could find a second copy on the shelf.
Thanks so much for asking! (We're going to be adding that torn-page contingency to the FAQ, too, just so you don't think you missed it! It'll be new after this!)

Just a quick question re: samples for the application as I appear to be having an extended brainfart 8') When you say "an AC-length or longer thread" does this mean each sample thread has to be 10 comments or more, or are you treating them like AC in that the two samples should come to at least 10 comments or more together?
Many thanks!
no subject
In AC proper, you can use as many links as you'd like, but since we're checking samples against the personality section, the longer the better.
Thanks!

1. i was wondering how in depth the descriptions of the weapons on the cases go! do they just show the name of the weapon, or do they explain what the weapons do? for example, misa's "weapon," the pages of the death note, are part of a magical notebook that kills people that get their names written in it, and i'm wondering if her case in the gallery would display that information about the notebook's abilities, or if it would just be labelled with the item's name :o i hope that makes sense!
2. breaking into the cases is impossible, but is there any sort of penalty/defensive measure in place if someone tries to do it?
thank you!
no subject
1. Weapons will be labeled with the weapon's name, what it is if it has a name that does not make it obvious what it is (i.e., if someone named their sword "Steve," it would also state what kind of sword "Steve" is), and who it belongs to! So it won't show the Death Note's abilities, but anyone who is wondering what kind of thing a Death Note is, and what it's capable of, could track Misa down and ask her!
2. There are no penalties or defensive measures for trying to get into the weapon cases! Just the frustration of being unable to!

I'm wondering about textbooks re: magic - as in the kind that would be studied by students in a world where magic is normal. Are these kinds of books available in the library, and if so, where?

Characters who are sensitive to spiritual/magical things won't be able to sense anything malevolent about the library, and anything they sense within it would have to come from other characters or their weapons, if they're the sort to give off that kind of energy. Certain books (think dark spellbooks, etc.) might also give off evil auras, too, but that would again be a result of the books themselves being evil more than the library's influence.
The Library itself will have a kind of low-burning neutral energy, if they really try to sense it, neither malevolent nor benevolent, but also very, very old.

1. Laundry. Is this. Is this characters making do with their best between tiny provided soaps and sinks or showers or is there someplace geared toward laundering?
2. The manicured park. How large is this park surrounding the Library? Is there any water feature in it that may be deep enough to swim in (even if it's shallow)? Are there any fish, frogs, etc living out in the park. Any birds?
3. So energy within the Library is neutral--is that the same throughout the park outside?
4. Okay but with those views from various levels do we get sunrises and sunsets and just perpetual autumn weather or... something else?
5. If we get sunsets what kind of night skies are up there?
no subject
1. There is nowhere geared toward laundering, but characters won't have to make do unless they really feel like they have to. Changing clothes and putting away anything that's soiled (either in the duffel bag or locker or just leaving them in a pile somewhere to... disappear and end up in the lost and found...) for a few hours at least will mean the next time that set of clothes is pulled out, it'll be clean, by the same mysterious circumstances that makes characters clean the first time they show up and every time after returning from stories and/or death.
2. It is simultaneously large and small. Characters can walk in one direction away from the library for as long as they like, and will keep seeing new-but-similar landscaping, but when they turn around to go back, they'll always be just a football field-length away from the building. There are fountains in the park, and one particularly large one between the main doors gets to be around three feet deep in the center, but that's as deep as the water will go. There's no wildlife outside.
3. That's right! The park will have a slightly more alive energy, because of all the plants, but it will mostly feel like an extension of the library itself.
4. Perpetual autumn afternoon! No sunrises or sunsets, but the light can be either bright sunshine or that reddish glow that comes when sunset is soon but not-quite started. Sometimes this changes within moments, from looking out one window to looking out another, though it won't change for anyone who is outside.
5. There are no sunsets, so there are no night skies!

—also! do the characters' tablets keep track of time normally? or are they stuck at 4 like the library clocks?
no subject
The tablets are all stuck at 4, but any personal timekeeping devices brought in with characters will keep time normally! Unfortunately, they'll all keep time from when they were brought in, so they'll all be different.

If a character doesn't wear clothes usually, would they simply not receive clothes?
If a character's weapon is conjured by them from dark energy (instead of a physical object that can be carried around), would this fall under powers, or weapons?
If the character cannot really be 'killed' due to being an eldritch entity (and thus never really alive in the first place) but instead needs to be exorcised if someone wants them gone, will they be revived like other dead characters after exorcism?
no subject
If they don't usually wear clothes, they wouldn't receive clothes from home, but they would still receive the Standard Library Outfit of a pair of jeans, sneakers, and two Library Shirts - and since they don't have them already, a set of underwear, all in their size.
If a character's weapon is conjured, it would fall under powers.
If a character like this is exorcised, that exorcism would act as a "death" as far as the Library is concerned, and they would be revived as such. In stories where characters lose their powers, they'll still be able to die like a normal human, though.

Arknights has a lot of characters but not all of them have appeared in the main story or event story. Executor is one of them, but he has the standard voicelines and profile information like rest of the cast. Would he be allowed?
no subject
We're only vaguely familiar with Arknights, so would you mind sharing with us what information is available for operators who haven't appeared in the main or event story vs those who have? I personally played it for a little while, and if I'm remembering correctly, there should be sufficient information in the archives to make characters with cards be appable, but any additional information you could share with us so we can make a ruling as a team would be much appreciated!

Would characters be able to draw from the Library's 'innate magical energy' (if I'm understanding the question asked a bit above) as a source of power for their magic?
no subject
If characters' magic relies on drawing from the natural world around them, then yes, they would be able to. If their magic is more innate, and usually comes from themselves, then it will continue to do so.

Species Question
1. The FAQ specifies that characters can be any species so long as they are sentient. As far as characters who are non-humanoid in appearance, how is that treated in regards to stories where the roles are all humanoid? Would they fill the narrative role in their regular body, be turned into a human to fit the role, etc.?
2. Is there any restriction or particular downside to apping characters who are unable to handle objects the same way as a human (ie. a horse)?
no subject
1. In the stories where the roles are all humanoid, they will be turned humanish to fit the role if the role specifies that they're humanoid. If it doesn't, then they can fill the narrative role in their regular body, or will be changed to suit the role however it is specified! There is some flexibility - they can maintain key features while still slotting into "humanoid", and we'd leave that up to player discretion. If the role says "human" and not "humanoid," then the change would be to turn completely human.
2. We don't believe there are restrictions or downsides, but there might be challenges, and they might have to use their mouth or nose on things more than they'd like.

Edgar here comes from Identity V — there's no real main story plot beyond a bunch of "Survivors" who are trapped in a manor and playing a game where they can die over and over... and over again. However, each character gets a profile and bit of very vague background in the form of some cryptic deductions, and some voice through canon tweets.
Edgar here was released about 3 months ago, and isn't likely to get his deductions for a pretty long while. However, outside of the game, his original creator posted a series of diary logs that summarize his life before the events that lead up to him coming to the manor in his voice, and he has a decent number of tweets. His characterization through these elements is pretty consistent and solid, so I was wondering if this would comprise enough canon to make him appable?
no subject
If you can compile those logs and tweets into a place where we can easily go over them for your app (a list of links on a journal entry would suffice, honestly), then as of right now, that sounds like enough material to be appable as of right now. If you pull everything together and want to double check, feel free to touch base again and we can give you a definitive answer either way!

For example, one of the characters I'm considering is blind. She's capable of getting around by pushing her magic into her eyes to "see" the life energy in everything around her, but that obviously wont work when it comes to an inanimate object that has no magical signature, and naturaly she'd be shit out of luck during events. Are there books with raised words/Braille (it doesn't exist in her canon, but still) or TTS readers?
no subject
The Library itself would have a very low magical signature - it's alive, sort of, so you could play with the idea that she could get a rough outline of walls and shelves and the like if you'd like - but during events that would be dependent on whether or not she has access to her powers, you're right.
For books - there are books with raised words and books with Braille, and the network device can have a TTS reader.
