⬢ History: it's simply not right that a person like you exists
⬢ Personality:
As a soldier, Ogata is exemplary. He doesn't hesitate to kill, and he takes pride in his ability to win his battles. Calculating and patient, Ogata suits his sniper role well. He feels absolutely no guilt for those he shoots - and he thinks everyone else is the same. To Ogata, purity and justice are impossible virtues that society pretends to uphold. This worldview is at the heart of who Ogata is; when it's challenged, he becomes angry and lashes out. As a human, Ogata barely qualifies.
Another fundamental aspect of Ogata's understanding of the world is patricide. He believes that everyone could commit this act, as a rite of passage into adulthood. While part of this belief surely stems from a sense of bitterness towards his own family and the family unit as a concept, it is also a simple act of freeing oneself from any meaningless expectations. He takes pride in himself being a loner, and as with the other elements of his world view, he expects others to wish for the same.
Ogata is a solitary creature. Even within a group he keeps to himself - unless he's eavesdropping. For him, social connections are only made out of convenience, or a mutual sense of give and take. Genuine fondness isn't a factor. He's never shown to have any friends, or any warm feelings for other characters. This doesn't mean he's necessarily incapable of growing close to someone, but doing so surely isn't on his mind.
Despite being someone who only associates with people he deems 'useful', Ogata isn't the best at gaining anyone's trust. He behaves suspiciously often, such as disappearing, making disparaging comments, and eavesdropping. Rather than play the role of a fast friend, Ogata keeps to himself and may ignore the customs or habits of the group he's with - such as not emulating Ainu traditions when traveling with Asirpa and others. He tends to appear aloof and distant, and when his behavior changes, it's almost certainly because he wants something.
Ogata is loyal only to himself. He moves from faction to faction when it suits him, and doesn't often make any grand overtures to alliances. Serving as 'hired help' suits him well enough. Willing though he is to use those around him, Ogata's exact ambitions remain a mystery. He isn't blood-thirsty - senseless chaos serves no purpose for him. Whatever his goal, we just don't know. His clearest motivation currently seems to be simply proving his worldview to himself and others. Protecting himself is a priority, though not his first. To prove his philosophy that no one pure can exist in the world, he's willing to goad an innocent girl into killing him.
Outside of staring down innocence, Ogata functions extremely well under pressure. The threat of death, the opinions of others, or extreme conditions do not hinder his focus, nor his performance. Unfortunately, Ogata is aware that he's very skilled. He has an inflated sense of pride, and is one to subtly brag or more overtly insult someone's struggles in areas he's competent in.
