⬢ Name:
⬢ Canon: If your canon has multiple names (ex.: MDZS/The Untamed), please take a moment to check and see if your canon is on the taken list already, and use the name there.
⬢ Canon Point:

⬢ History: We would prefer this to come in the form of a link or a series of links, but will accept written histories if there is nothing available.

For series with multiple routes and/or choices that can be made that effect the outcome of the game, please outline what choices were made as well.

⬢ Personality: Describe your character as best as you can. If we feel there is anything pivotal to the character that was left out, we will ask for revisions, so please try and be as thorough as possible. Be sure that the personality described is adequately reflected in your samples!

⬢ Powers: Because there is no power nerfing in the library itself by default, please list all canon powers, and outline what forms those powers take/what they can do. Feel free to link to a wiki section here as well, if that would be easier. Please note that any powers not on the application will not be accessible without a canon update, so we have something to refer to.

We do reserve the right to limit game-breaking powers, but will also work with you to give your character a reduced form of these powers, should they come up, so they won't be lost entirely.

⬢ Inventory: Please outline everything that was on your character's person at the moment they were pulled into the game. This includes weapons, armor, and anything in their pockets and/or any bags they might have been carrying. Please also describe (or link an image of) their second outfit from home, and choose two of the following three library shirts that they will find in their complimentary duffel. [1 2 3]

⬢ Sample 1: [Link] - An AC-length or longer non-network thread that showcases your character's personality. Samples may be from memes, psls, the TDM, or other games, so long as they are both accessible to the mods to read, and from within the past year.
⬢ Sample 2: [Link] - An AC-length or longer thread that showcases your character's personality. Samples may be from memes, psls, the TDM, or other games, so long as they are both accessible to the mods to read, and from within the past year. The second sample may be a network-style thread.

To apply for your character, copy the text below and paste it into a comment, filling out all necessary information. Do not link your application. You may link your application from here or from an entry on your journal on the taken list.

Character Info
⬢ Name: John Egbert
⬢ Canon: Homestuck
⬢ Canon Point: The very end of his presence in the Meat Epilogue.

⬢ History: Link to the Wiki

⬢ Personality: John is the sort of guy that things happen at rather than one who necessarily has any control over a situation. On the surface, he seems to be the token everyman character. People call him the leader. He loves his friends a bunch. He’s friendly and dorky and a bit clueless. And without a strong purpose or a central conflict or something very specific he’s been told to do, he feels clueless and empty. Throughout the main plot of Homestuck, John just keeps going. He has to beat the game, so he tries his best to level up, following any instructions he’s given by people he identifies as probably more intelligent than he is, which leads to his death on multiple occasions. Without fail, he prioritises helping his friends and progressing in the game over himself. And while this does wear on him, while his own deaths and the death of his father and his friends build up inside him, he keeps them inside. It isn’t even strictly a case of surface-level repression. John pushes down all of the tragedy he experiences to a point where he doesn’t even actually realise he isn’t ok. When it comes out, it tends to come out as anger directed at something frivolous like finding out a favourite candy of his is made by a company he dislikes, or an unkind prank played on him by a friend. John doesn’t let himself feel sad at first because he doesn’t have the time, he keeps being interrupted by circumstance or whatever purpose he sees as more important than himself. But by the time his session fails and he comes across the battle he missed (because he was venting his emotions being mad at a sexist tool in a dumb cape) he’s pretty much numb. He watches one of the only living people left in his session sob as she buries one of his longtime best friends and just looks faintly sad. Rose expects him to throw a fit when he finds out the Big Bad is the head of his least favourite company and he just. Doesn’t. He can’t let himself feel any of his real big emotions anymore. They don’t help the game.

As far as his strong purpose or path, he doesn’t allow himself to stop. In the failed session, Roxy expresses wanting to just sit down, accept they failed, and wait to fade away, and he can’t accept that. He wants to do something. Terezi showing up and giving him a last minute purpose before she dies is probably a big reason for why he ends up with a crush on her. Without a big purpose or a path, he stagnates. After the end of Homestuck, during the Credits, you see John winding down. He’s invested in building up Earth C at first, when that’s still a task that needs to be accomplished, but year by year you watch him draw back from his friends, and isolate himself. By the time the Epilogues start, it’s been ages since he’s properly talked to or seen most of them. He has no purpose, but he still has his block up, preventing him from actually engaging. He doesn’t know how to exist like a normal person, or let his feelings loose now that he has the time. The version of John I’d be bringing in never even tries to change. He stays in his depression funk in his house and then almost immediately follows the first list of instructions he’s given, just to have a meaningful purpose again.

When he has a purpose, John is fiercely loyal to his friends, motivated and caring. He doesn’t always think his words through, and can say some accidentally pretty hurtful or blunt things, but he means well. When he takes the time to think, he’s really thoughtful and sometimes more perceptive about people than anyone gives him credit. He knows that Rose cares a lot about her friends, for instance, despite the thick layer of sarcasm and bullshit she communicates through. Once he’s had time to meet Karkat, he doesn’t take his rudeness seriously either, because he knows he’s a good guy. He definitely seeks out people who can challenge him, for friendships. He wants people who can be an asshole right back, or engage in playful jibes. When he doesn’t like a person, though, because they’re irredeemably mean or an asshole, he gives it right back, and is purposefully shitty to them (instead of accidentally). Overall, though, when mentally well, he’s almost overwhelmingly friendly to people, practically bludgeoning them in the face with it. The fact that he apparently hasn’t spoken to many of his friends for months in the Epilogue is pretty much the biggest indicator that he’s not OK.

⬢ Powers: John has a frankly absurd amount of powers. First of all, he seems to come by super strength naturally from his family, as both his dad and his alternate universe son expect their wards to one day be able to lift things like concrete safes and entire fridges.
The next power set comes from ascending to godhood within the video game he grew up in. They’re all part of being the Heir of Breath.
- he’s immortal and will live forever unless he dies doing something heroic or villainous
- he can fly
- he can control wind from vast swathes used to move clouds across the entire sky and lift cars to small wisps of wind used to hold his broken glasses on his face
- he can turn INTO the wind
- there seems to be some sort of healing thing associated with Breath that another Breath character nearly or did use but John doesn’t know how to use it so….shrug! I’ll bring it back up again if he comes back with more powers suddenly in the Homestuck sequel
His last power comes from sticking his arm randomly into a powerful magical artifact and is the most OP. It’s his retcon abilities. He can travel anywhere/anywhen, including fictional universes, including inside the graphical interface of someone’s computer. These powers follow no laws of time travel, so they don’t mess up reality when he uses them, though they do change things.

⬢ Inventory: John is wearing his Godtier outfit. He has a MSPA Fetch Modus [inventory] containing Contact and Ghostbusters on DVD, a shaving kit, his phone, and his phone charger. His second outfit is made up of dark taupe cargo shorts, white sneakers, and a white longsleeved tee with his green ghost symbol on it. The library shirts he has are 1 and 2.
