⬢ Personality: On the surface, three words could be used to describe Aerith: joyful, upbeat, and free-spirited. With a naturally sunny disposition, Aerith is outgoing and cheerful, the type who will make an effort to be friendly to anyone she meets. There is no such thing as stranger danger with this one! Plus, if she finds someone attractive, she has a natural tendency to flirt. She has a quick and often mischievous sense of humor, a clever wit, and a playful approach to conversation. While she may be playful, however, she is also quite frank in how she expresses her feelings; she will both say and do exactly as she wishes, not allowing herself to be restrained by what society says is proper. If there's something she wants, she'll go for it, and the only thing that can stop her, generally, is if she knows that someone she cares about will be hurt by the very thing she's chasing. Not even the least bit shy, she's not backward in coming forward, approaching situations from a place of frank honesty, and not worrying what others might think of her for doing so. Overall, in this regard, she is very much the type to live in the moment, enjoying everything that life has to offer.
Having grown up in the Midgar Slums, Aerith outgoing and adventurous, a firm believer that she can handle things by herself. And try she will to do exactly that. Perhaps as a direct result of this, she's very determined; when she sets her mind on a particular path, that's the end of anyone's chance to convince her to try something different. This causes her to be somewhat secretive about her plans, often only revealing what she intends to do once it's too late for anyone to try and sway her course. This can cause problems for herself and others around her, as while she believes in her own self-sufficiency, she's also not a trained strategist!
As the last of the Cetra, Aerith has an intuition beyond that of the average human; she communicates with the wind and flowers, and sometimes knows when souls pass into the Lifestream. While this may give others the impression that she's something of a space cadet, the truth is that she's always listening and paying attention. She just doesn't always show it on account of her attention being pulled in so many different directions. The way she handles this knowledge, however, shows her deep care and compassion for others; she is able to communicate her trustworthiness easily to both Marlene and Red XIII, despite neither having met her before. And in Midgar, she senses that something isn't quite right with Cloud, a guy that for all intents and purposes, she's only just met. Where others might focus on the negative traits of others, she tends to see the good in everyone. She tries to show kindness even to people whose ideologies are vastly different from her own, and displays forgiveness even to those who might not necessarily deserve it. In Remake, she even informs Cloud, when Rude has come specifically to collect her on behalf of Shinra, that he's not a bad person. Some would probably say that such actions show naivety, but Aerith would rather trust someone who turns out to be untrustworthy, than not trust someone who needed her trust.
The major downside to being the only living descendant of the Cetra though is that Aerith feels quite lonely. Not only is there no one else like her, but her differences from others also led to her being isolated from other children as she grew up. It might be for this reason that she displays strong maternal instincts, caring greatly for the children of the Slums, or really just anyone who seems to be in need. However, even as an adult, she's still marked as different, whether by the people around her, or the Shinra company and its constantly watching eyes. Even now, there's a part of her that wishes she could just be normal; while she doesn't really admit this to others, it's visible in her interactions with them, such as in how she chose not to tell Cloud or any of the others about her true lineage.
⬢ Powers: Aerith is the last of the Cetra, a race of people able to both communicate with the planet Gaia and guide its spiritual energy. As she states herself during the original game's timeline: "The Cetra were born from the Planet, speak with the Planet, and unlock the Planet." Her power means that she knows things she shouldn't, such as when a soul passes into the Lifestream; it is also implied quite strongly in the Remake timeline that she has some knowledge of things that happened in the original timeline. Due to these powers being reliant on being on her own planet, Aerith will not have access to them here, although she will be informed by anything she already knows from before her arrival.
Aerith is a capable fighter in battle, wielding a collapsible stave from which she can shoot magic projectiles; if she absolutely needs to, she can just hit an opposing fighter with it. She possesses some minor magical abilities of her own, able to cast a supporting shield over her friends, summon an aetherial familiar, and call down a healing wind in times of desperation, but her more powerful magical abilities come from the use of Materia, orbs formed of crystallized mako energy from her own planet.
HEALING MATERIA—
Allows Aerith to use healing spells.
❀ Cure: Restores a minor amount of HP.
❀ Cura: Restores a medium amount of HP.
❀ Regen: Restores 10% maximum HP and applies the Regen buff, which restores HP by 1% every 2s for 180s.
❀ Curaga: Restores a major amount of HP.
MAGNIFY MATERIA—
Allows Aerith to expand the range of spell with the linked materia at the cost of its effectiveness. As this is linked to her Healing materia, she is able to cast AoE heals at a 25% reduction of HP healed.
FIRE MATERIA—
Allows Aerith to use fire magic.
❀ Fire: Deals a minor amount of fire-elemental damage.
❀ Fira: Deals a medium amount of fire-elemental damage.
❀ Firaga: Deals a major amount of fire-elemental damage.
REVIVAL MATERIA—
Allows Aerith to use revival spells.
❀ Raise: Revives a target at partial HP.
❀ Arise: Revives a target at full HP.
MAGIC UP MATERIA—
Increases Aerith's magic attack power by 25%.
She also has a strong affinity for flowers and living things, although it remains to be seen if this is due to her connection to Gaia, or a talent she has herself.
