Known as Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky in his first life (well, on the internet), this guy is the author of shitty harem novel Proud Immortal Demon Way who also transmigrated into it after he died (by electrocution on account of having knocked cup noodles all over his laptop). In his first life, he was a very broke webnovel author who compromised his Literary Ideals in favor of writing lengthy fanservicey bullshit because that was got the clicks and tips and he had to keep his subscribers happy or he wouldn’t be able to pay rent! He had dreams once of writing an emotionally gripping & complex story but despit the numerous promising plot hooks & foreshadowing in Proud Immortal Demon Way, it is pretty much about a dude just killing and fucking his way through his adventuresome life. It’s What The People Want
Sorry unlike Shen Qingqiu we don’t actually know his real name from his first life, he responds to Airplane, it’s cool
When he transmigrated, it was also into the body of a villain: Shang Qinghua, lord of An Ding Peak of Cang Qiong Mountain Sect, famous for having turned traitor to his sect as a double agent for the Demon Race and then being murdered very shortly thereafter by his demon boss in the original story.
Unfortunately, unlike his buddy Shen Qingqiu, he transmigrated into Shang Qinghua’s body as…an infant! And had to actually live out his miserable poverty-stricken backstory. We LOVE to go through puberty a second time
Knowing that death awaits him if he doesn’t change the narrative, he similarly tries to prevent the circumstances that lead to the original Shang Qinghua’s scummy betrayal and totally fails! Just like in his original novel, he winds up pledging allegiance to the demon lord Mobei Jun in exchange for sparing his life. In return, he gets some demon assistance in rising to the top as a cultivator and becoming the Peak Lord of An Ding Peak, but this is really just more leverage for Mobei Jun.
During Shen Qingqiu’s potato phase (the five year period in which his new plant body is maturing in the ground after he dies, like a potato), Shang Qinghua defects to the demons’ side for keeps, his treachery exposed to all his trusted colleagues. While his daily life before largely entailed being the Sect Accountant and being made to deal with everyone else’s Logistical Problems, his daily life now involves a lot of the same except with demons and the fun addition of getting beaten up by Mobei Jun for fun on a regular basis. Shang Qinghua does not hesitate for even a SECOND to shove Shen Qingqiu under the bus as soon as he shows up alive again, and when he meets Shen Qingqiu again, is totally shameless about it, claiming the whole “camaraderie among transmigrators” is bullshit when you’re faced with life or death, sorry bro. (His canon point, the same as Shen Qingqiu’s, is shortly after this.)
Despite his life as Mobei Jun’s servant being kind of miserable, Shang Qinghua finds himself rushing to rescue his demon king when he’s falling to his death during the big story climax. Turns out he is actually pretty attached to the guy who beats him up on a daily basis! Mobei Jun is also his personal favorite among his OCs; while Shang Qinghua created Luo Binghe for mass appeal, Mobei Jun was based on his own tastes, which is to say, he’s real fuckin gay for his own OC. They wind up married too it’s just how things go in these books
⬢ Personality: Shang Qinghua loves the simple things in life: memes, job security, and not getting the shit kicked out of him.
OK SO despite all of the above, Shang Qinghua is not really an actively bad or malicious person; he’s just out for himself, that’s just how it is! In his first life he was a Child of Divorce and while you couldn’t say he had a particularly bad childhood, he definitely did not have close, warm relationships with either parent and as an adult, was pretty alone. As a transmigrator, he had an even shittier time of it, constantly being taken advantage of and taken for granted. His walk through life (both of them) has largely taught him that you always look out for yourself first, because no one else is going to; the corollary to this is that there’s nothing shameful about putting yourself first, always, because it’s what a smart person* would do. Maybe it’s not nice to throw other people under the bus, but hey, anyone would in his position, right? Nice people get taken advantage of, after all.
*Shang Qinghua is not a smart person. He thinks he is, though.
The thing is, Shang Qinghua can be a pretty okay guy if there are no external circumstances driving him to throw everyone around him under the bus! He will totally keep a promise* and he can actually be kind of chill, and despite his me-first approach to life, does in fact enjoy having friends. He’s not like…completely terrible. He does draw a line—where, exactly, he draws it may depend on the circumstances—but there is a line, because he’s not an actual villain, just a huge fucking coward. He has a scant few morals he will not abandon immediately to save his own skin, and he is not incapable of doing things like putting his life danger for other people (cf. saving Mobei Jun instead of letting him fall to his death, which would have actually solved a lot of his problems at the time), it just takes him a little while to care enough about someone that he’d feel really bad about fucking them over.
*As long as it is not a problem for him. Do not trust him with your secrets.
Unfortunately, he still has the personality of the kind of person who smugly writes bad porn on the internet for a living and sockpuppets into critical discussions of his work. He’s a fucking meme lord and he thinks he’s hilarious. He has absolutely no shame; he has never even heard the words “saving face”. Frankly it is embarrassing, for other people, how little shame he has. As a result though, he is actually a pretty confident dude; he is never not on his bullshit and he Knows himself (mostly), and his shamelessness comes all the way around to being…kind of respectable? Kind of. That isn’t too say he has no pride (he’s just not terminally attached to it); he does take pride in his writing. He knows a lot of it is bad, okay! But he has Literary Ideals and would probably not be a terrible author if he stopped bending to fanservice. He’s not criticism-proof, but he is criticism-resistant: to Shang Qinghua, praise carries more weight than complaints, and at the end of the day his haters are still subscribing to his work, so it’s not like it’s his loss!
He’s very passionate about the things he loves (read: Huge Nerd), which is maybe his most redeeming quality. His enthusiasm and hype are genuine; he cares about his writing, even if he is willingly compromising its integrity for money. He will write like a man possessed when he’s in his zone; he used to push out daily 10,000 word updates, and his quantity-over-quantity approach helped his perpetually broke ass continue to cover rent. He can talk just as fast, and he will cave to life-threatening (or just wellbeing-threatening) pressure so quickly it gives people whiplash. He will be your new best friend if it will save his skin! He’s often not that convincing, but makes up for it by being relentlessly shameless & pathetic. His general cowardice extends in pretty much all directions, but he does not see this as a character flaw. He has the approximate tact of a ten-year-old and his brain to mouth filter is not very good; sometimes it fails entirely and his internal monologue just escapes right out his mouth.
⬢ Powers:
As a cultivator, he can control his spiritual energy in such a way that lends him a sort of broad and vague range of abilities. The book does not really get hella specific about it but here are some things he can do. In theory, being a top disciple in a prominent cultivation sect, you would think he is pretty good at this stuff, but relative to his peers he’s like…just okay.
He has a cool sword that is spiritually linked to him, that he can both use as an actual sword or just kinda make it fly around and stab stuff. (He doesn’t do these things.) He can also send out blasts of spiritual energy from his sword and fly on it like a sharp airborne skateboard
He can fire off blasts of spiritual energy, make objects explode with spiritual energy, make shields out of spiritual energy…you can do a lot with spiritual energy, is what I’m saying
Being a cultivator is more or less like being a superhero in that you’re just like an Upgraded Person: he doesn’t age, doesn’t (technically) need to eat or sleep, is generally tougher/stronger & recovers more quickly than the average person, etc.
He does, technically, know how to use his sword in both fashions, but he sucks in a fight
Logistics & administration. This is literally his job as Peak Lord but he is actually pretty decent at it. He resents it immensely though
He can write at absolutely inhuman speeds. Seriously. Proud Immortal Demon Way is thousands of chapters long. This is probably his most significant power
⬢ Inventory:
He will be arriving in his cultivator garb aka lots of layers and flowy robes, and those robes include qiankun sleeves! Qiankun sleeves are basically bags of holding, but on your arms. You can store so much shit in your sleeve hammerspace it’s EXTREMELY convenient
His fancy cultivator sword, which will be locked away, which he’s like, pretty fine with
A large bag of delicious melon seeds.
⬢ Sample 1: [shang qinghua & shen qingqiu] ⬢ Sample 2: [shang qinghua & shen jiu] ⬢ Sample 3: The thing about transmigrating after dying is that you don't really experience the transmigration part. Just zap, crackle, boom you're dead here's your new infant body, have fun suffering through puberty again! So when Shang Qinghua suddenly finds himself deep in the dimly lit periodical stacks with no memory of transition, he’s totally disoriented. The smell of old books is distantly familiar, but nowhere he’s been recently, that’s for damn sure. He shakes out his sleeves and snaps his fingers a few times before a pale flame flickers in his palm.
Hmm.
There is no way a library like this exists in the Demon Realm; actually, given that he’s been kicking it in fantasy ancient China, there’s no way a library like this exists in the Human Realm, either. Are those…magazines?
He likes to call himself an experienced transmigrator, but the truth is that his only experience with it has been by dying, and he has to wonder if Mobei Jun finally went overboard and accidentally beat him to death. He doesn’t remember being in a punching bag session with his king, he’s pretty sure he’d been in the middle of doing demon taxes or whatever…
"The fuck?" he mutters, peering at the titles. These look like literary journals, and this looks like a huge-ass library. Seems…safe? But he’d be a total idiot to assume it’s safe just because it’s quiet and he seems to be alone, right? "Hey, System, is this a prank? Am I being punished? Can I use B-points to get out of it?”
No response. Shang Qinghua stops and knocks on the System, except...it's not there??
This is a good thing, right? No System haranguing him, forcing him into plot points he wants nothing to do with, no worrying about keeping his score up—right? But transmigrating without a System? Ah, fuck, maybe he edied for real, and this is some kind of weird literary purgatory! All of Shang Qinghua’s relief evaporates in favor of rising alarm. He wasn’t feeling too attached to his life in the Demo Realm, shitty as it was, but the last thing he wants to do is actually die for real!
